Pieter Jacob Andriessen (The Hague, December 17, 1815 – Amsterdam, March 19, 1877) was a Dutch writer and teacher. In 1844 he became head teacher in Amsterdam, a position he held until 1872. After this he devoted himself entirely to writing. He died in Amsterdam and was buried in Rustoord, where a memorial was also unveiled for him. His first books were published under the pseudonym Pieter Jacobsz. These were Adolf or the prodigal son; The minne singer of Countess Ada; and De Schoondochter. Under his own name, he wrote “a whole series of romantic stories for young people, mainly derived from national history, further stories for girls and younger children.” Together with W.J. Hofdijk he wrote Panorama of the Dutch past. Together with his daughter Suze Andriessen, he wrote Het Heidebloempje just before his death: a story from our time for girls.
